Discover Central Otago
Visitors come to Central Otago for the mountain scenery, the lakes, and for the adventures and activities that these playgrounds proffer
Stay a while to experience it all…
Central Otago wineries
Central Otago Pinot Noir wines are renowned as exemplary of the grapes’ possibilities. There’s no shortage of them to try here, but it’s not the limitation of this now vineyard filled region.
Whatever your wine knowledge or desire to discover, we can steer you to our favourite wineries, those with global renown and those lesser known national treasures.
Whether you seek a guided tour for an afternoon or whole day, or simply wish to fit a tasting into your itinerary here and there, let us know your preference and we’ll point you in the best direction or arrange it all for you.
Heritage discoveries
Heritage towns are plentiful in these parts and they each bring their own charms and histories to your wandering.
Clyde is on our doorstep, St Bathans and its Blue Lake is a must-do 40 minutes away, add on Naseby and the Maniototo Adventure Park while you’re in that direction.
Take lunch in Ophir after sending a postcard from New Zealand’s oldest post office and fit in a visit to Mitchell’s Cottage.
The historic options are endless. Chances of a cowboy coming round the corner… reasonable!
Otago trail riding & MTB
Matangi Station MTB park is on our doorstep for higher octane biking experiences! It is home of the Prospector MTB race for a reason.
Endless tracks and trails of varying difficulty levels await the dare devil in you.
And the views? Worth stopping for before you put your head down and hit the berms.

Central Otago Rail Trail
Welcome to the home of New Zealand’s first ever Great Ride - the Central Otago Rail Trail.
Trailing the great gold mining heritage of the South Island, the Rail Trail is a gentle ride through unspoilt landscapes. It starts (or finishes!) 5 minutes from our door.
So does Lake Dunstan Trail. This fabulous feat of trail creation takes you all the way to Cromwell and the Bannockburn wineries - a just reward!
Hunting & fishing
Fishing in Otago’s Clutha river can be a bountiful and a beautiful experience. The landscape tells its own story as the fish come and go.
If a day of calm and a good catch are on your wish list we’ll organise for you to spend it with the local experts.
Big hunting country beckons beyond where the eye can see and there are some spectacular opportunities for those seeking a trophy while they’re here.
Winter sports & adrenalin adventures
Adrenalin junkies descend on Central Otago for all these reasons. After AJ Hackett created the original bungy jump down the road near Queenstown, the gateway was open to using the dramatic and rocky landscape to push nerves to the extreme every day of the week!
From jumping and canyoning to heli-skiing, backcountry exploring, hiking, off-roading and so much more.
Cardrona ski field and the snow park are less than a 90 minute drive and provide all the thrills you seek for skiing, snowboarding, snow tricks and snow-shoeing.
